Brussels Pride returns this May with a strong message, a vibrant parade, and a week of events celebrating diversity and inclusion.
Pride History
The first-ever Pride parade took place in Chicago on June 27, 1970. It inspired similar marches in cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York.
In Belgium Pride began in the 1990s under the name "Roze Zaterdag" (Pink Saturday). It later became the "Belgian Lesbian and Gay Pride" before being renamed "Belgian Pride" in 2010.
Since then, the event has grown significantly, welcoming over 150,000 participants today, compared to just 12,000 in its early days.
